The Guassa Plateau which covers a total area of 110km² awaits you in a green plateau between forests and waterfalls and mountains and valleys. You will find an ideal place to enjoy the idleness and explore flora and fauna of this conservation area.
At the heart of this journey lie the seemingly-endless landscapes of the Guassa Plateau with an abundance of animals in their natural habitat. Guassa Plateau is much more than a beautiful natural space. It had been protected for 400 years prior to this which makes it Africa’s oldest conservancy. Its purpose is to conserve habitats for animals and plants species, contribute to sustainable local development and raise public awareness of the environment. It’s considered as home to many plants’, birds’ and mammals’ species. It’s also ready to welcome ecotourism lovers. As the main protected area of the region, Guassa Plateau which hosts seven of Ethiopia’s endemic mammals works for conservation of endemic habitats. DAY 01: ADDIS ABABA – GUASSA PLATEAU NATURE RESERVE Pick up from Addis Ababa is in the morning at around 07:00am and drive 265km northeast of Addis Ababa to the Guassa Plateau area. Arrival at Guassa Plateau would be around mid-day (12:00 – 13:00hr). In between, admire a spectacular view over the Blue Nile Valley offered by two valleys viewpoint. After lunch and short rest, take your local guide to start your first day trekking by doing short trek to the nearby mountain top. This offers great views of the Guassa plateau and also a good chance to spot one of the most important Ethiopia’s endemic mammals, to be specific; Ethiopian wolf. (IMPORTANT: Lunch for today would be boxed lunch.) Overnight stay: at Guassa Community Lodge DAY 02: REGREG – ATSE WUHA Today after breakfast, trek from Regreg to Atse Wuha (from afro alpine grassland area to the Lobelia Valley area) to experience the wildlife and nature adventure of a lifetime which takes roughly 5 – 6 hrs. In this trekking, you will enjoy an authentic safari experience at the Guassa Plateau ecotourism center where you will have a chance to see plenty of highland flora and fauna, Gelada Monkeys, Ethiopian Wolves and the Lammergeyer birds. Overnight stay: camping at Atse Wuha DAY 3: ATSE WUHA / CHEGUARIT MEDA / ATSE WUHA After breakfast, start trekking from Atse Wuha to Cheguarit Meda. (4 to 5 hours) Today you will explore more wildlife and connect with locals to see their life style in your trekking to Cheguarit Media. Various scents fill the air as you are immersed in your experience among the animals and plants in one of the oldest nature reserve in Ethiopia, the Guassa Plateau. There are a number of places to take break in your trekking and enjoy the surrounding landscapes. In the afternoon, retrace to Atse Wuha. Overnight stay: camping at Atse Wuha DAY 4: ATSE WUHA - MEHAL MEDA - ADDIS ABABA Do a short trekking from Atse Wuha to Mehal Meda where you will take your vehicle and after a few eventful days you return to Addis Ababa, where you arrive in the early afternoon. (Mehal Meda – Addis Ababa = 265km and takes roughly 5-6hrs) |

Day 1: ARRIVE ADDIS ABABA Arrive Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and be transferred to your hotel. Overnight stay in a hotel Day 2: ADDIS ABABA – AWASH NATIONAL PARK After breakfast, drive from Addis Ababa to Awash. After freshening up at your lodge, enjoy an afternoon vehicle game drive in the country’s famous Awash National Park. During this first game drive your eyes start adjusting to spot game in the bush and in the distance. This superb national park is a wildlife oasis, and home to Grant’s gazelle, greater and lesser kudus, Beisa Oryx, Soemmering’s gazelle, and many more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Overnight stay in a lodge Day 3: AWASH NATIONAL PARK – NAZRET Enjoy a thrilling morning game drive in Awash National Park. The landscape, with its waterfall and its most important geographical feature which is the semi-dormant Fantale volcano, make for a visually exciting safari full of diversity. Both Soemmering’s gazelle which may easily be distinguished from Grant’s gazelle by its shorter and stouter horns and Beisa Oryx are guaranteed sights on any wildlife tour to this national park. Overnight stay in a lodge DAY 4: NAZRET – AWASH NATIONAL PARK - Bale Mountains National Park has everything you would expect from a national park: breathtaking scenery and a range of habitats to explore. Most famously, Bale Mountains National Park is noted for its large herds of Menelik Bushbuck - almost a guaranteed sight on any safari. Overnight stay in a lodge Day 5: FULL-DAY IN BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK Bale Mountains National Park has everything you would expect from a national park: breathtaking scenery and a range of habitats to explore. Most famously, Bale Mountains National Park is noted for its large herds of Menelik Bushbuck - almost a guaranteed sight on any safari. Day 1: ARRIVE IN ADDIS ABABA On arrival in Addis Ababa, you’ll be met by your representative, and transferred from the airport to your hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure. In the early hours of the evening, you will meet a reception for a tour briefing. Overnight stay in a hotel Day 2: ADDIS ABABA – AWASH NATIONAL PARK In the morning you depart from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa and make your way to the Awash National Park. On your way you pass by many small cities, such as Bishoftu which has the most crater lakes of any city in Ethiopia, as well as Nazret and Dukem. On your way you will have a brief game drive in Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve where you will have a chance to see Grevy’s Zebra and wild ass. Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve is located very close to Awash National Park. During your game drive in this wildlife reserve, your eyes start adjusting to spot game in the bush and in the distance. Overnight stay in a lodge Day 3: FULL-DAY IN AWASH NATIONAL PARK After a good breakfast you take a game drive into the park. The Awash National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Ethiopia. Already in 1970 the area was put under nature conservation consisting mostly grass and bush. There are excellent opportunities for game viewing in the open field. This national park is rich in wild animals such as sommering’s gazelles, Colobus and grivet monkeys, greater and lesser kudu and Oryx. Overnight stay in a lodge Day 4: AWASH NATIONAL PARK – BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK Off to new adventures! Your destination is the Bale Mountains National Park, one of Ethiopia’s greatest national parks and home to prolific birdlife and numerous game. Menelik’s Bush Buck, Ethiopian Wolf, warthogs, and Mountain Nyala are among the many wild animals you could encounter while you are in this national park. The afternoon is at leisure at your hotel. In the late afternoon you will have a brief game drive. Overnight stay in a hotel Day 5: FULL-DAY IN BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK Today is dedicated for a full-day game drive in the park when to get the most from it. At the Bale Mountains National Park one full day is available for you for game viewing at this national park. Today you cross the park with aim of visiting the wild animals it hosts and taking in the seemingly-endless landscapes. Overnight stay in a hotel Day 6: BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK – SENKELLE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY – AWASSA In the afternoon you drive to the Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy a game drive across the reserve. Here you could encounter the type of game you have not seen yet, Swayne’s hartebeest. The largest concentration of Swayne’s hartebeest is found in this wildlife sanctuary. Overnight stay in a hotel Day 7: AWASSA – LANGANO Drive from Awassa to Langano for your overnight stay. Langano is one of the best recreational places in Ethiopia. After arrival enjoy the lakeside view at Lake Langano. Overnight stay in a lodge Day 8: LANGANO – ADDIS ABABA – INTERANTIONAL FLIGHT The morning is spent on a game drive through Abjatta-Shalla Lakes National Park to see Ostrich, Grant’s Gazelle and other game. After a few a few eventful days you return to Addis Ababa where you arrive in the late afternoon. Finally, be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to home. |

Ethiopia’s national parks and reserves cover a great variety of landscape and vegetation types, and include areas of genuine unspoiled wilderness. In the north are the unique and beautiful highlands of the Simien Mountains National Park. South Ethiopia too has several vast game areas: Awash National Park which straddles the rugged and untouched wilderness of the Rift Valley Escarpment, Bale Mountains National Park, one of the most established national parks in the country, offering the most prolific game viewing on part of the Bale-Arsi massif.
There are also a number of game areas further south near the Omo Valley areas of Ethiopia which include Nech Sar National Park, Mago National Park, and Gambella National Park.
